Successfully Managing Your Child’s Chronic Illness: Strategies and Tools to Help Parents Navigate the Challenges 

(Livingston, NJ) Saint Barnabas Medical Center Pediatric Specialty Center is pleased to present a symposium for parents named Successfully Managing Your Child’s Chronic Illness: Strategies and Tools to Help Parents Navigate the Challenges.  This program will be offered on May 4, 2010 from 6:00-7:30 p.m. at the Saint Barnabas Ambulatory Care Center 200 South Orange Ave., Livingston, NJ 07039.  The featured speaker will be Mark Paul Faber, M.D., Director of the Division of Pediatric Psychiatry at Saint Barnabas Medical Center.  Dr. Faber is a board-certified child/adolescent and adult psychiatrist.  Joining Dr Faber, are Judy Epstein, MSW, LSW, Melissa Jacobs, MSW, LCSW and Carla Gray, MSW, LSW.  Following Dr. Faber’s presentation, there will be a panel discussion with the three social workers along with a question and answer period.

This program will address the issues faced by parents whose child has been diagnosed with a chronic illness.  The program will focus on the following topics:

  • Educational implications
  • Social implications
  • Juggling the needs of other children in the household
  • Importance of a good support structure
  • Resources to help parents navigate the challenges
