Giving the Gift of Life: Institute for Reproductive Medicine & Science Seeks Egg Donors LIVINGSTON, NJ -- The Institute for Reproductive Medicine and Science of Saint Barnabas Medical Center, in Livingston, New Jersey, is seeking egg donors to help infertile couples. One in five couples of child-bearing age suffers from infertility. In vitro fertilization (IVF) -- fertilization of an egg outside the body -- offers the only chance of having a baby for many of these couples. Conventional IVF is a method of assisted reproduction in which the man’s sperm and the woman’s eggs are combined in the laboratory for fertilization. But some women trying to conceive are unable to produce eggs or have chromosomal defects which make natural conception dangerous or undesirable. In these cases, egg donation offers renewed opportunity for successful conception. Egg donation can be a rewarding gift to an infertile couple, however, it requires a big commitment. The process of egg donation involves retrieving eggs from the ovary of a donor and then fertilizing the eggs with the sperm of the recipient’s partner. The Institute is seeking egg donors who are women of all ethnic backgrounds and are between the ages of 21 and 32. The donation program adheres to the highest ethical standards. All egg donors are carefully screened both medically and psychologically to ensure their optimum health. To qualify, donors also must have medical insurance and be able to provide their own transportation to and from the Saint Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, New Jersey. Residents of New York can have screening and daily monitoring tests performed locally by a physician practice which is associated with the Institute. After completing an egg donor cycle, financial compensation of $7,000 is offered. For more information on being an egg donor, please call 1-800-824-3123.
