American College of Healthcare Executives – NJ Chapter

Ostrowsky, President and Chief Operating Officer of the Saint Barnabas Health Care System, will be the recipient of the 2011 Distinguished Service Award of the American College of Healthcare Executives – NJ Chapter (ACHE-NJ) at the annual meeting on  June 9, 2011 at The Chart House Restaurant in Weehawken, New Jersey.

The ACHE-NJ is a professional organization of 600 members who direct the management services and programs within healthcare facilities and related organizations. The Distinguished Service Award recognizes the personal and professional contributions of a senior level health care leader in the State of New Jersey who has made a significant difference in the quality of and access to health care for the residents of New Jersey.

“I am honored to have been selected to receive this very special recognition,” said Mr. Ostrowsky.  “The ACHE-NJ is important in this challenging health care environment in its efforts to promote continuing education, encourage participation in healthcare policy legislation and further the profession of healthcare administration.”

Mr. Ostrowsky is responsible for ongoing operations of all clinical facilities and services within the Saint Barnabas Health Care System (SBHCS).  Moreover, he is responsible for organizational strategy and physician management and integration.  He is leading SBHCS’ initiatives in responding to the new dynamics of health reform. 

SBHCS is the largest not-for-profit integrated health care delivery system in New Jersey and one of the largest in the nation.  The System includes six acute care hospitals, a behavioral health center, outpatient centers, ambulatory surgery centers, two children’s hospitals, geriatric centers, the State’s largest behavioral health network and comprehensive home care and hospice programs.  SBHCS’ 18,000 employees (second largest private employer in NJ) and 4,600 physicians (one-fifth of the State’s actively practicing physicians) provide treatment and services for more than two million patients each year. 

Prior to joining the Saint Barnabas Health Care System in 1991, Mr. Ostrowsky was a Senior Partner in the law firm of Brach, Eichler, Rosenberg, Silver, Bernstein, Hammer and Gladstone.  In that role, he represented physicians and other health care professionals and health care institutions in such areas as corporate restructuring, certificate of need regulations, licensure and reimbursement policies.   Mr. Ostrowsky has played an active role in shaping the evolution of New Jersey’s health care delivery system and has worked closely with physicians, hospitals and insurers in this regard. 

Mr. Ostrowsky is currently serving or has served as a member of the Board of Trustees of the following organizations:  Cerebral Palsy of North Jersey (Past President), The New Jersey Network Foundation, Overseers of Rutgers University and The Metro YMCAs of the Oranges.  He lectures extensively on health care related topics at the Rutgers University Masters Public Health Program, the National Health Lawyers Association and the American Health Planning Association.

Mr. Ostrowsky received an AB from Rutgers University and a JD from the University Of Tennessee School Of Law.
