Events in Honor of Breast Cancer Awareness throughout Barnabas Health

Community Medical Center To Host Women's Health Day -
An Evening for Women and Their Friends

Community Medical Center is hosting a Women's Health Day on Tuesday, October 25 in celebration of women and their well being. The event will be held at the Quality Inn in Toms River from 4:30 - 8:00 pm.

Physician specialists and health professionals will provide information on topics that are important and specific to women. Lectures will take place from 6 – 7 pm. Dr. Robert Closkey, orthopedic surgeon, will provide an overview of osteoporosis; Dr. Russell Ashinoff, plastic and reconstructive surgeon, will discuss the latest options for breast reconstruction surgery; and Suzanne Hart, RN, MA, holistic nurse, will lead participants in a relaxation exercise and discuss healing through guided imagery and breathing techniques.

Health screenings and a health fair will be offered from and 4:30-5:45 pm and from 7 – 8 pm. There will be drawings for wonderful prizes and refreshments will be served.

Participants are welcome to stop in for all or part of the evening and celebrate health, wellness and relaxation.

In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Kimball Medical Center is offering a day of wellness, prevention and education for women on Friday, October 21 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. 

Enjoy a day of educational activities for the prevention of breast cancer.  Join Kimball Medical Center Dietitians, Registered Nurses and physicians from specialty areas including cardiology, obstetrics and gynecology, and infertility.  Learn about the importance of nutrition, exercise, smoking cessation and breast self-examination.  Body fat analysis and bone density screenings will also be available.

The program will be held at Kimball Medical Center in Conference Room A and B.  The event is free and pre-registration is not required.

Saint Barnabas Medical Center in collaboration with Congregation Ahawas Achim B'nai Jacob & David, The Orthodox Union and Sharsheret present Breast Cancer in Jewish Women: 2011  Prevention, Detection, Treatment, Genetics on Sunday, October 2, 2011 from 10:00 am – 12:00 noon at Congregation Ahawas Achim B'nai Jacob & David, 700 Pleasant Valley Way, West Orange, NJ 07052. This free community program will feature the following speakers:

The Barnabas Health Breast Center will have representatives available to educate women about Breast Self Exam and the importance of early detection.  Sharsheret, www.sharsheret.org, a national organization supporting Jewish women and families facing breast cancer at every stage - before, during, and after diagnosis will be present to discuss the programs and services they offer. The Cancer Center at Saint Barnabas Medical Center will have representatives available to speak to specific services available.
