All across the nation, registered nurses are being saluted in celebration of National Nurses Week. The recognition begins on May 6, marked as RN Recognition Day, and ends on May 12, the birthday of Florence Nightingale, founder of nursing as a modern profession. The celebration focuses attention on the diverse ways nurses work to save lives and improve the health of millions of patients each year.

Saint Barnabas Health Care System is proud to have among its ranks the finest team of nurses in New Jersey. During Nurses’ Week we celebrate the professionalism, teamwork and commitment to excellence that distinguish our exceptional nurses. What is apparent within our facilities is that collaboration is a key element to effective nursing. By working together, learning together and advancing the profession, nursing professionals have earned a reputation for providing extraordinary care in every specialty.

It is hard to quantify the invaluable contributions nurses make to the lives of others. Our nurses work in emergency, med/surg, intensive care, pediatrics, behavioral health, long-term care and a host of other areas, and each day brings with it acts of caring, skill, hard work and the power to heal. As noted poet, educator, author and historian Maya Angelou said, “They may forget your name but they will never forget how you made them feel.” Nurses’ Week is a time to reflect and celebrate the profession, and to celebrate how the Saint Barnabas Health Care System feels about its nurses: “You’re Simply the Best!”
