Advanced Imaging Expertise: Dynamic Susceptibility Contrast Perfusion MRI

Dr. Pawar has acquired expertise in DSC-Perfusion MRI at New York University Medical Center under the direction of Edmond A. Knopp, MD, a pioneer in the field of advanced imaging. Perfusion MR imaging is a useful complement to traditional anatomic imaging and is becoming increasingly used in clinical practice to help diagnose, manage, and understand intracranial mass lesions. MR imaging CBV maps provide quantitative estimates of regional blood volume that can be used to help (a) differentiate tumor from nonneoplastic lesions, (b) evaluate different tumor types, (c) predict tumor grade, (d) serially and noninvasively monitor tumor progression, (e) monitor the efficacy of antiangiogenic cancer therapy, and (f) delineate areas of altered perfusion in acute infarct. (Cha S, Knopp EA, Johnson G, et al. NYU Medical Center).

Dr. Pawar has received the prestigous Foundation of the American Society of Neuroradiology (ASNR) Outstanding Presentation Award (General Neuroradiology, 2011), regarding his basic science research detailing the clinical application of Diffusional Kurtosis Imaging in patients with normal pressure hydrocephalus. He has co-authored the textbook, The Teaching Files: Brain & Spine Imaging (Elsevier: Fatterpekar, Naidich & Som) and serves as the current Section Editor of "On The Case" for Radiology Today magazine. Dr. Pawar is also a former Faculty Reviewer for Oakstone Medical Publishing, Practical Reviews in Radiology. In November 2011, Dr. Pawar became a member of the New Jersey Institute for Craniofacial Surgery, serving as a liason Neuroradiologist
