HEART & SOLE WALK TO SUPPORT HEART TRANSPLANT AT
NEWARK BETH ISRAEL MEDICAL CENTER

The public is invited to participate in the annual Heart & Sole Walk that will take place on Sunday, October 18 at 9 am at Verona Park to benefit heart transplant recipients at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center. In addition to a walk along the trail at scenic Verona Park, activities will include, a Kids’ Walk, entertainment for children, as well as music, food and beverages. Information about organ donation will be available through New Jersey Organ and Tissue Sharing Network (NJ Sharing Network), one of the federally-funded, state-certified non-profit organizations responsible for the recovery and placement of donated organs. Individuals, families and teams are encouraged to join in the event.

Newark Beth Israel Medical Center and the family of Mary Anne Ahearn, a heart transplant recipient in 1990, joined together to plan the 5K Walk to raise money in her memory. Mary Anne Ahearn lived almost 12 years after her transplant before succumbing to an unrelated illness. Inspired by the spirit of giving that filled every day of Mary Anne’s Life, the money raised by the Heart & Sole Walk will support children and adult patients of the Heart Failure Treatment and Transplant Program at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center.

The Heart Failure Treatment and Transplant Program at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center is New Jersey’s oldest and most experienced heart transplant center, having performed more than 500 life-saving heart transplants. It remains among the most active in the country, ranking ninth in the nation by volume, with short- and long-term graft survival rates that consistently exceed national benchmarks. The experienced team offers patients and families premier care and ongoing support.
