Newark Beth Israel Medical Center was named among of the nation’s top 50 hospitals for specialty care in Heart and Heart Surgery and top in New Jersey by U.S. News & World Report 2010-11 America’s Best Hospitals. The America’s Best Hospitals guide ranks hospitals that excel in specified kinds of medical and surgical care based on a variety of rigorous criteria.
The Heart Center at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center, an affiliate of the Saint Barnabas Health Care System, is one of only two cardiac programs in New Jersey to achieve this status and is listed among the nation’s premier heart centers. “When the stakes are high, you want the best care you can get for yourself or someone close to you,” said Avery Comarow, Health Rankings Editor. “These are hospitals are accustomed to seeing the sickest patients day in and day out.”
Hospital rankings were determined through the measurement of hard data from 4,852 hospitals throughout the nation. Newark Beth Israel Medical Center is among only 152 hospitals that performed well enough to rank in any specialty. Factors measured included the hospital’s reputation for taking care of the most complex and difficult cases, mortality index, patient safety, and quality factors such as nurse staffing and technology.
“The Heart Center at Newark Beth Israel is home to New Jersey’s most comprehensive cardiac services,” said John A. Brennan, MD, Executive Director of Newark Beth Israel Medical Center and Children’s Hospital of New Jersey. “This impressive designation for the second year in a row underscores our commitment to bringing the finest care to residents around the region.”
