Nearly 400 professionals attended the 7th Annual Saint Barnabas Cardiac Symposium
in September. The full-day CME program covered a range of timely topics in cardiology
with lectures and case studies presented by Saint Barnabas Heart Centers’ physicians as
well as specialists from the Cleveland Clinic and other cardiac centers.
Saint Barnabas Health Care
System cardiologists
continue to serve as
principal investigators in
national and international
trials, analyze data and
results, and publish
conclusions in renowned
scientific journals. One
symposium lecture by
Marc Cohen, MD, Chief
of Cardiology at Newark
Beth Israel Medical Center,
provided his update on
anticoagulation for acute
coronary syndrome titled “Enoxaparin 0.3mg/kg IV
Supplement for Patients
Transitioning to PCI after
Subcutaneous Enoxaparin
Therapy for NSTE ACS:
A Subgroup Analysis from
the SYNERGY Trial”
that was published in
Catheterization and
Cardiovascular Interventions,
Vol. 75, Issue 6, 2010.
Patients who received
treatment with supplemental
IV bolus of 0.3 mg/kg Enoxaparin prior to PCI performed 8 to 12 hours after their last
enoxaparin dose tended to have improved outcomes compared to those who did not
receive protocol-mandated enoxaparin. Strategies to ensure proper dosing of
enoxaparin during PCI should be implemented.
