For patients with ST elevated myocardial
infarction (STEMI), each passing minute can mean more heart
muscle damage. To enhance patient care and to reduce door-to-balloon
(D2B) times, SBHCS has invested in Medtronic’s Lifenet,
which allows paramedics to transmit an EKG to the Emergency
Department (ED) prior to the patient’s arrival. ED
physicians can notify the cath lab or activate the cath lab
oncall team while the ambulance is en route to the hospital.
In addition, the EKG can be routed to the cath lab as well
as to the physician’s wireless device for review.
Lifenet is operational at Newark Beth
Israel Medical Center and Saint Barnabas Medical Center and
will soon be implemented at Community and Monmouth Medical
Centers. The commitment to enhance STEMI care beyond our
already superb D2B times will further improve treatment and
outcomes for patients through quicker reperfusion times,
while strengthening our relationship with
the local EMS communities.
Working with GE, SBHCS has begun implementing
a single digital EKG system. This project will enhance our
current EKG system and provide a better vehicle for physicians
to read, including remote access and the ability to view
results within our affiliate hospitals. This project is currently
being implemented at CMMC, CMC, MMC, SBMC and will soon expand
to include NBIMC.
