Margarita Camacho, MD, Surgical Director of Cardiac Transplantation
and Assist Devices, joined the Barnabas Health Heart Centers
from North Shore University Hospital and Montefiore Medical
Center where she served as Director of the Cardiothoracic
Surgery Intensive Care Unit, Director of the Ventricular
Assist Device Program and Director of the Cardiac Transplant
Program. Dr. Camacho received her medical degree from New
York Medical College, Valhalla, NY. She completed fellowships
in cardiothoracic surgery and pediatric cardiothoracic surgery
at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and served as a clinical
associate at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation’s Thoracic
and Cardiovascular Surgery program where she specialized
in transplantion and mechanical assist devices.
Board certified in thoracic surgery, she is president of
the Society of Women in Thoracic Surgery, a fellow of the
America College of Surgeons, and a member of the International
Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation and the Heart
Failure Society of America. Dr. Camacho is also a member
of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons and serves on its workforce
on end-stage cardiopulmonary disease.
Dr. Camacho is the author of many journal articles, book
chapters and surgical manuals. She has served as the principal
investigator of several clinical research trials involving
treatment of heart disease, including four current device
trials.
