Roy Bumsted, father of Remmey, will discuss the loss of his 23-year-old son to sudden cardiac death from unsuspected congenital heart disease and his wish to save other families from similar tragedies through an education program for New Jersey healthcare providers.

6:40 PM Preventing Sudden Cardiac Death in Children and Young Adults

Objectives - Upon completion of the conference, participants will:

  • Describe the incidence of SCD in children and young adults.
  • List the etiologies for SCD in this population.
  • Describe strategies to prevent SCD in children and young adults.
7:20 PM Spotlight on Congenital Coronary Anomalies
Michael Landzberg, MD, Director, Boston Adult Congenital Heart and Pulmonary Hypertension Service, Children’s Hospital of Boston, MA.

Objectives - Upon completion of the conference, participants will:

  • Describe the widespread prevalence and implications of coronary artery anomalies.
  • Interpret test results for coronary anomalies.
  • Discriminate which patients should proceed for intervention due to coronary anomalies.
8:00 PM ADHD Treatment and Overview of Cardiac Issues
David O. Childers, Jr., MD, Chief, Developmental Pediatrics, University of Florida College of Medicine, Jacksonville, FL.

Objectives - Upon completion of the conference, participants will:

  • Identify the importance and efficacy for stimulant treatments with ADHD.
  • Explain the issues associated with cardiac risk concerns with stimulant treatment of ADHD.
  • Describe when to refer for further evaluation before starting stimulant medication in the treatment of ADHD.
