New In 2010: Contact Hours for Social Workers, Patient Care Technicians and Dieticians

This symposia is designed to provide the necessary knowledge and skills for renal health care professionals who wish to broaden their knowledge of renal and pancreas transplantation as a treatment modality for their CKD patients. It is specifically designed for dialysis nurses, patient care technicians, dialysis social workers and dieticians. The symposia will also provide initial and re-certification for Transplant Surgeon Designees.

Objectives
Upon completion of this program, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the role and summarize key responsibilities of the multi-disciplinary dialysis team related to referring their patients for transplantation
  • Gain knowledge about new advances in living donor kidney transplantation as a treatment modality for CKD
  • Describe the transplant team’s approach to the identification, referral and evaluation of a prospective transplant candidate
  • Identify important matters in the medical management of the renal transplant donor and recipient
  • Describe the various surgical techniques used in kidney and pancreas transplantation as well as living donation
  • Understand the financial aspects of transplantation
  • Gain knowledge about how obesity affects transplant outcomes

Certification
Upon successful completion of the symposium, all participating RNs will be certified as 2010 Transplant Surgeon Designees according to the guidelines established by the Quality Insights Renal Network Three (formerly TARC).

Contact Hours
This activity has been submitted to the American Nephrology Nurses’ Association (ANNA) for approval to award contact hours to nurses and patient care technicians. The ANNA is accredited as an approver of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

This activity has been submitted to the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) for approval to award contact hours to social workers and to the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) for approval to award contact hours to dieticians.
