Newark Beth Israel Medical Center To Sponsor
Kidney And Pancreas Transplant Symposium
For Patients And Families

Newark, NJ— Newark Beth Israel Medical Center (NBIMC), a recognized leader in renal and pancreas transplant, will hold a special evening free program, “Kidney and Pancreas Transplant Symposium for Patients and Families” on Thursday, September 22, 2011, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. The program will take place in the Parsonnet-Danzis Auditorium at NBIMC, located at 201 Lyons Avenue in Newark, NJ.

Kidney transplantation is considered the best long-term treatment option for patients who are either on or nearing a need for dialysis. At this Symposium, an experienced team of nephrologists, surgeons, nurses and social workers will answer questions about kidney transplantation. Topics to be addressed include advances in transplant surgery, living donor programs that can decrease wait time for a transplant, and the social, emotional and financial considerations of transplantation. A panel of kidney donors and recipients will also be on hand to share their personal experiences. The Symposium will be presented in both English and Spanish.

Newark Beth Israel Medical Center performed New Jersey’s first kidney transplant in 1967 and the state’s first living-related transplant in 1968. Since that time, more than 2000 kidney transplants have been performed at NBIMC. Over the years, the program has continued to expand, combining personalized, compassionate care with cutting edge advances in medical technology.
