State-of-the-Art Facilities

The expansion and renovation of the Saint Barnabas Health Care System Renal and Pancreas Transplant Centers reflects the System's commitment to a fully integrated and nationally acclaimed renal transplant program. The Renal and Pancreas Transplant Centers remain one of the most active 240 such programs throughout the United States. Recent facility improvements offer comfortable waiting and examination areas for patients and families while simultaneously providing staff with the most advanced environment for the evaluation and treatment of people seeking a kidney transplant, as well as those who have already received a transplanted organ.

The much anticipated Martin G. Jacobs, M.D., Transplant Institute opened at Saint Barnabas Medical Center in February. The new center, which boasts 16,700 square feet of space, was designed for patient-focused care and include a Pediatric Nephrology Center, a Research Center, as well as Pre- and Post-Transplant areas. In addition, the new Observation Unit allows for continued intensive therapy and monitoring by physicians that can prevent readmission to the hospital in some cases. Spacious waiting areas, additional examination rooms, an on-site laboratory and a conference room increase staff efficiency and enhance patient satisfaction.

Newark Beth Israel Medical Center also renovated its Renal and Pancreas Transplant Center recently with an emphasis on patient comfort and education. In addition to several new examination rooms, the Centers provides shared office space that promotes collaboration among the transplant team members and a spacious conference rooms for patient education sessions and family meetings.
