The Importance of Increasing Organ and Tissue Donor Awareness

Since 1987, The Sharing Network has continuously educated New Jersey residents about the benefits of organ donation, but they can't do it alone. There are more than 70,000 Americans (over 1,800 of them in New Jersey) waiting for life-saving organ transplants. The good news is that this is a health crisis we all have power to cure. The bad news is that there are simply not enough donated organs, and each year, thousands die needlessly waiting for transplants that could have saved their lives. The Sharing Network asks residents to consider helping in a variety of ways to end this organ donor shortage. Joining the New Jersey Organ and Tissue Donor Registry as an organ donor is one way to help the organ donor shortage. Joining the New Jersey Organ and Tissue Donor Registry as an organ donor is one way to help the organ donor shortage. Another way to help increase organ donation awareness is through various volunteer initiatives that can take place right in one's own community. Volunteers assist The Sharing Network's efforts by attending speaking engagements, media events, health fairs, or assisting with office work. For additional information or to obtain a registry form/donor card, call The Sharing Network at 1-800-SHARE-NJ, or visit the Web site at www.sharenj.org.
