

The New Jersey Organ and Tissue Sharing Network has announced that Stuart Geffner, M.D., has been appointed its new medical director. Dr. Geffner serves as Director of Transplant Surgery for the Saint Barnabas Health Care System where he has been responsible for building the Saint Barnabas kidney and pancreas transplant program into one of the largest transplant centers in the country.

Luigi Bonomini, M.D., Ph.D., Medical Director of Pancreas Transplantation at Saint Barnabas Medical Center, has been appointed President of the Transplant Society of New Jersey. The Transplant Society is dedicated to the advancement of transplantation within New Jersey and is comprised of physicians and other medical professionals involved in organ transplantation.
Dr. Bonomini brings extensive professional training and leadership to his new position. Since 1996, he has overseen the expansion of the hospital’s pancreas transplant program, including the addition of a new pancreas after kidney transplantation program in 2000.
The New Jersey Transplant Society is a forum for sharing information and insights amongst New Jersey’s transplant physicians, nurses, coordinators and other transplant support staff.

Shamkant Mulgaonkar, M.D., Chief of the Division of Transplantation for the Saint Barnabas Health Care System, received the American Dream Award at the International Institute of New Jersey’s Sixth Annual American Dream Celebration. The event recognizes the service and contributions made by immigrants and refugees who have chosen America as their new home.
Dr. Mulgaonkar is one of the preeminent professionals in transplantation in New Jersey and is largely responsible for the success of the Saint Barnabas Health Care System Renal and Pancreas Transplant Centers as one of the most highly regarded programs in the United States.
