On March 30, the Tenth Annual Transplant Surgeon Designee Course was sponsored by the SBHCS Renal and Pancreas Transplant Centers at the Sheraton Newark. Approximately 150 registered nurses and other renal health professionals participated in the course to broaden their knowledge of renal transplantation as a treatment modality for patients with ESRD. The program is also a necessary requirement for nurses seeking certification as Transplant Surgeon Designee. Certification and re-certification programs are each held once a year and involve a written examination. The SBHCS Renal and Pancreas Transplant Centers were one of the first in the nation to develop this innovative, educational program.
