Barbara Barbara's Story

"Even though I currently live in Bayonne, I proudly call Jersey City Medical Center my hospital."

Born at the Margaret Hague and raised in the city, the hospital is near and dear to me. Three generations of my family have trusted it. From providing compassionate care for both of my parents, to the current treatment of my 34-year-old daughter, who suffers from numerous health conditions, Jersey City Medical Center has proven again and again that they offer the best care close to home.

When mom’s health began to quickly deteriorate in 2009, bringing her to Jersey City Medical Center was the best decision. From the time we walked in, the atmosphere was inviting and there was a sense of caring with all the staff; from security, to aides, to nurses, to doctors. We had the same experience with my dad when he was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer. While they cared for my parents, the team was so kind to the rest of my family, making some very tough times just a bit easier. I felt like every single person at the hospital was handpicked by angels to work there.

When my daughter became very ill, there was no question. I wanted her to also be treated at Jersey City Medical Center. My daughter was recently diagnosed with a tumor in her heart. She has been treated for many conditions, most of which stem from 19 years of steroid use for asthma.

We have used the Emergency Department and the ICU at Jersey City Medical Center more times than I can count but I am always impressed with the staff. They go above and beyond when they treat each patient. It is more than just the best medical care. We have been greeted by many with hugs. They make my daughter laugh and she makes them laugh too. When you are really sick, that truly means a lot and I am so grateful to them.

My family and I trust Jersey City Medical Center for all of our health care needs. There are other hospitals nearby but we always choose this one. That is why I am thrilled that the Medical Center is opening a new Satellite Emergency Department in Bayonne this summer. It is such a comfort to know that it will be quicker and easier to get the high-quality care they offer during an emergency situation.

In addition to the wonderful care, the Wall of Heroes at Jersey City Medical Center truly touches my heart as the grandmother of an organ donor. This beautiful tribute to those who have donated their organs to save lives really demonstrates how Jersey City Medical Center offers comfort to our community in the face of tragedy.
