While crossing the street in Jersey City, I was hit by a truck. I cannot recall the details of the accident that sent me to the hospital but I do have the scars to remind me. I can actually see every day what the team at Jersey City Medical Center (JCMC) did for me.
They truly saved my life. That is something I will never forget. I am so grateful.
When I was brought by the JCMC EMS into the Emergency Department, I was in excruciating pain. What the team at Jersey City Medical Center first saw were numerous broken bones and severe facial injuries.
They were much more worried about what they couldn’t see. Shortly after coming back from a CT scan to make sure I had no life-threatening chest injuries, I crashed in the trauma bay. I was suffering massive internal bleeding in my abdomen.
Every member of the trauma team at Jersey City Medical Center worked very quickly to save me. They immediately rushed me to the operating room, stopping twice to open my abdomen. They had to stabilize me so that I could survive the extensive surgery. Afterwards, I was on full life support. The equipment and medical skill is what kept me alive.
I feel like I was born again at Jersey City Medical Center.
I consider myself very lucky our regional Level II Trauma Center was here, close to home at Jersey City Medical Center when I needed it most. I cannot say enough about the highly skilled staff. Everyone took care of me exactly the right way at exactly the right time.
While consistently providing me with the best care, the team never forgot about my beloved wife Angie. They were compassionate and professional and kept her informed every step of the way. And, they let her stay at my side and comfort me.
