Retail Pharmacy Network Division

Retail pharmacists are responsible for dispensing and controlling medicine, which includes both prescription and non-prescriptions. They also advise customers on general healthcare. Retail pharmacists must work to legal and ethical guidelines set by many different regulatory agencies, including the State Pharmacy Board, Drug Enforcement Administration, Food and Drug Administration as well as payers.

The RWJBarnabas Health Retail Pharmacy network currently operates six pharmacies that offer convenient prescription services to both patients and employees. Our services are also open to the general public. Our network of services are conveniently located on site to save our patients and their families a stop on the way home after a doctor’s appointment, clinic visit, outpatient procedure or an inpatient stay. Recently our services have been extended to offer our patients the benefit of complimentary bedside delivery of their medication by our pharmacy discharge advocates. This convenience was initiated to allow a smoother transition for inpatients that are being discharged on medication. This service allows our professional staff to explain the importance of taking their medication and answer any questions the patient may have.

Much like a neighborhood pharmacy, our pharmacy network stocks both brand and generic versions of the most popular prescription medications and over-the-counter (OTC) items for one-stop shopping experience.

Since many our pharmacies are located within our hospitals, they can carry a more comprehensive line of specialized medications and devices for acute care, pain management and other treatment modalities. The pharmacy staff understands the complex needs of our patients and employees and makes every effort to accommodate special needs and requests.

Additional services offered by our pharmacy network include:
  • Bedside medication delivery prior to discharge
  • Prescription delivery to your home (some restrictions may apply)
  • Popular generic prescription plans offered ($4 for 30 days, $10 for 90 days on select generic medications)
  • Individualized medication consultation available on every prescription
  • Computerized year-end tax records and insurance receipts
  • Over-the-counter (OTC) medications available with a 20% discount to all employees
  • All major insurances as well as Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) cards accepted
  • Charity Care Prescription Programs
  • Contracted pharmacy to our 340B hospitals
