The Schwimmer family has supported the Barnabas Health Hospice Bear Hugs
program since its inception in 2009 in memory of their wife and mother,
Judith Schwimmer, a social worker and educator. Over 2,500 memory bears
have been handcrafted and given to grieving families thanks to their generosity,
along with the talent and dedication of our Bear Hugs volunteers.
This year marks the 10 year anniversary of her death, so her family has
pledged $100,000 to Hospice to underwrite the under-discussed topic of
end-of-life care in our community. Their gift will help broaden Hospice’s
efforts to educate community members and healthcare providers regarding
